Religious Funerals

Lilleywhite Funeral Service is a multi-denominational funeral service.  We conduct funerals for people of any faith and have a strong links with local Catholic and Anglican churches.

Our funeral directors and staff are always available to discuss any questions you may have regarding religious or cultural beliefs.

More information about local church are available from the following websites.

Roman Catholic Church www.salforddiocese.org.uk

Non-Religious Funerals

British Humanist Association for the one life we haveToday, more and more people are choosing either a Humanist or Civil officiate to conduct the  funeral service.

A Humanist funeral ceremony is conducted by a Humanist celebrant from the British Humanist Association and is a non-religious ceremony reflecting and celebrating the persons life, with music and readings selected by the family instead of hymns and religious scripture.

A Civil Funeral Ceremony can be a mixture of both the religious and Humanist ceremonies and can be tailored to suit your requirements.  These services are provided by accredited members of the Institute of Civil Funerals.

Funeral Transport

The hearse for the funeral with chauffeur and sufficient bearers are also an essential part of our service to you.  Unless otherwise requested,  our staff will carry the coffin both into and out of the church/place of worship. We believe this is the ultimate in reverence and respect, and reflects our part in conducting a 'traditional' funeral service.

Limousines are charged for separately. This ensures that the family are not charged for something they may not need or want. The charge for the limousine(s) is fully inclusive to cover the address at which your family require to be picked up, through to your final destination. Each limousine will carry up to seven mourners.

We currently have a fleet of comfortable Mercedes-Benz hearse and limousines built by Binz UK.  All our drivers are immaculately presented, and are polite, professional and sympathetic.

We are also able to provide coaches and other alternative methods of transport to convey the deceased and large numbers of mourners to and from the funeral.  For more information regarding alternative transport options for funerals please, click here

Embalming and Hygiene Services

We consider embalming and hygiene treatment a very important aspect of our service. Embalming is used for improving the presentation of the deceased, it is always advised especially  if the funeral has been delayed or if the body is to be transported some distance.

All of our embalming is completed 'on site' at our premises in Prestwich where we have excellent, purpose built mortuary facilities, including a refrigerated store and sluice.

Floral Tributes

Flowers are traditionally the most silent but visible way of your emotion and respect. After the funeral, we will if requested, take the tributes to a home address, nursing home, hospice etc of your choice so that they may be appreciated by others (subject to acceptance).

We will be more than happy to arrange floral tributes on behalf of your family, please see floral tributes or contact the funeral director.  Alternatively, donations to a suitable charity may be considered.

We have a long established working relationship with Margaret's Florist in Prestwich.  For assistance with choosing floral tributes, please speak to your funeral director or alternatively contact Margaret's Florist directly as follows: -

Newspaper Announcements

It is customary to place an announcement in the local or national newspaper. This serves two useful purposes. Firstly, to make ensure that anyone wishing to attend the funeral is provided with the necessary details.

Secondly, to reduce the chance of an embarrassing encounter with an uninformed friend or neighbour.

Local newspapers include: -

  • Prestwich & Whitefield Guide

  • Bury Times

  • Manchester Evening News

  • Salford Advertiser

Printing - Order of Service

A printed order of service can avoid the need for mourners to shuffle through hymn and prayer books.

Complete with the deceased's details, they are often used as a memento of the day, and can often be sent to those unable to attend the funeral or used as an aim memoir.

They can be printed in black and white or colour, and with photographs if so desired.  All type setting is completed by Lilleywhite Funeral Service and a proof is always approved by the family before going to print.

Charity Donations

Increasingly, families are requesting for family flowers only to be sent and ask for donations to a charity that was appropriate to the deceased and/or their family.

We accept these donations on behalf of the family and we ask that only cheques are sent to us, preferably made out the the nominated charity.

We normally keep the donation file open for up to six weeks after the funeral, which often gives enough time for any late donations to be received.  After this time, we will send all the donations to the nominated charity(ies) on behalf of the family.  At the same time we will issue a letter to the family stating how much was raised in memory together with a list of donors.  Once received the nominated charity(ies) will send a 'thank you' letter to confirm their receipt.

Lilleywhite Funeral Service are proud to support Bury Hospice.  Bury Hospice delivers very special nursing and medical care to local men and women who are living with a life-threatening or terminal illness whilst supporting their families and carers.  For more information go to: www.buryhospice.org
